• During my final semester at NAIT a portion of the class was tasked with creating 3 VR teambuilding games for VRcave’s new VR suite. This included Level Design, 3D Art and thorough quality assurance testing within VR and in Engine.

  • We had a team of 6 designers split between the 3 games. We started with our basic documentation with a GDD and a metrics gym which were hugely impactful with the first gen VR being highly constrained. After documentation we broke the teams down into Level Designers, Artists and Gameplay programmers, and built out each level with our updated documentation and feedback from the VRcave team. Ultimately the goal for the 3 games were to get each team to buildup to a near complete build with the pipeline in place for high resolution 3D models and more advanced gameplay programming for the next Capstone team and Vrcave to tackle after we graduated from the program.

  • The VR teambuilding games had various constraints and challenges such as the limited build requirements for early generation VR headsets which limited our creative freedoms but also helped us learn design scope and feature creep very quickly. The VR games were also developed over only a few months requiring quick iteration and feedback which often left out the opportunity to design further into some aspects of the gameplay.
